In the Prayeradox series, I explore the paradoxes of prayer that abound in the Christian life. Scripture teaches that prayer on earth enables us to commune with the God of heaven. And in my experience as a Christian, prayer has proven to be both simple and mysterious, personal and communal, as well as ordinary and extraordinary. I aim to convey these contrasts by blending representational and abstract forms. In some pieces, I also reflect these differences by creating stained glass images on ordinary household windows. Like prayer, I have found this type of artwork easy to describe, yet laborious and humbling to actually do. In persevering with these drawings and in prayer, I experience God’s beauty, hope, and healing as I struggle through both processes.
